Zanzibar is a carefree island paradise where the scent of vanilla and cinnamon lingers in the air and white-sailed dhows leave shimmering trails in the turquoise Indian Ocean. But while Zanzibar is famous for its spicy tang and idyllic beaches, some of the most magical experiences you will have are diving in Zanzibar.



We will be running this trip in October, which is known to be the Humpback whale and Whale shark season.

The Diving

Zanzibar is home to the great underwater safari and some of the best dive sites in Africa. Water temperatures of around 27 degree celsius with a visibility of 20 – 60 metres. October is know for whale sharks, Humpback whales, as well as  your reef tip sharks, dolphins and hawksbill turtles, and with a visibility of 20 – 60 metres you are sure to see some incredible sites

There are multiple dive sites in the Northern area of the island – dive site for the day will depend of confitions

      • Kandwa Reef
      • Nankivell and Hunga reef- At a depth of 12 – 16 metres these two dive sites are open to open water divers. Some marine life you will encounter include reef sharks, dolphins, barracudas, snappers, silver sweetlips, napoleon wrasse, parrotfish, surgeonfish and lobsters.
      • Shanes reef
      • Chakatuni
      • Leven Bank – underwater mountain landscape and abundant marine life. With drops of 12 – 55 metres and a strong current, this dive site is only for advanced divers. Some of the marine life you are expected to see here include whitecap reef sharks, dolphins, rays, rainbow runners, honeycomb moray eels, tunas, guitar fish, trigger fish, marbled electric rays, groupers and nudibranchs.
      • Coral Garden, Mbwangaw, Haji, Kichafi, Misoli reef, and Leons wall
  • Dive sites for the day will depend on currant conditions and diver requests.

Additional Activities

Stone Tour – Follow the trail of the sultans, slaves and explorers in the winding streets of stone town. Your guide will captivate you by retelling the events that shaped Zanzibar, leading you through the former slave markets, museums and even the home where Freddie Mercury grew up. Whilst tracing the steps of the past you will be able to explore the markets of modern day stone town and enjoy the spoils they hold.

Spice Tour – Zanzibar was once know as the spice island, exporting a variety of spices across the world. Nowadays these plantations are a tribute to the islands past. During this tour you will get the chance to walk through the spice farms where you can touch, smell and taste the different spices and tropical fruits.

Zanzibar Safari- This is a full day trip on a locally constructed dhow, which will anchor to a shallow area where clients can get off and enjoy some snorkelling. Lunch is then provided for on one of the uninhabited islands in the area.

Qualifications

Zanzibar diving is very easy, so all divers from Open Water qualification and up are welcome to join us on this trip.

We also welcome non divers as there is great snorkelling areas around the northern parts of Zanzibar
